Dr Dan is a scientist, lecturer & advisor who has become world-renowned for successfully integrating Earth system science with mātauranga Māori – Māori knowledge, culture, values and worldview – to help realise the dreams of the communities he works with.

Dr Dan is a scientist, lecturer & advisor who has become world-renowned for successfully integrating Earth system science with mātauranga Māori – Māori knowledge, culture, values and worldview – to help realise the dreams of the communities he works with.
He's also Aotearoa's UNESCO NZ Commissioner for Culture, Co-Deputy Director of Public Engagement Te Pūnaha Matatini, Pou Herenga Maori Advisory to Climate Change Commission, Acting-Tumuaki of Ngā Kaihautū Tikanga Taiao (Environmental Protection Authority), and sits on the Antarctic Steering Group.
Dan is a busy man. But, it's his calm andinspiring demeanor that inspires so many and draws us in to want to know more about his work, mātauranga, and how he strives to be a better ancestor.
